About MBRS

The Malaysian Business Reporting System (MBRS), a digital submission platform based on eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) format, was launched by SSM in September 2018 with nationwide mandatory implementation of Annual Return and Unaudited Financial Statements on 31 March 2019 in phases.

On 26 November 2024, SSM has announced the mandatory implementation date for Financial Statements in stages over 3 phases commencing 1 December 2024, 1 March 2025 and 1 June 2025. Manual submissions of Financial Statements and Reports will no longer be accepted, and all filings will need to be done digitally via MBRS 2.0.

The guiding principles behind the financial and the non-financial scopes for MBRS 2.0 are based on the Companies Act 1965 and 2016, Malaysian Private Entities Reporting Standards (MPERS) and Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS).

Who needs MBRS filing?

All companies, including foreign companies registered in Malaysia, are now mandated to file their submissions of Annual Return, Exemption Application and Financial Statements (Audited and Unaudited) using the XBRL format via MBRS 2.0., including previously exempted banking, financing and insurance companies regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia ("BNM") and companies with Financial Statements prepared in accordance with Companies Act 1965.

These include Private Limited Companies (Sdn. Bhd.), Public Companies (Berhad), Companies Limited by Guarantee (CLBG), Exempt Private Companies (EPCs) and Dormant Companies.
